Live Action or Animation

Each of us enjoys a movie, whatever medium of presentation it has. It could be live action or animation.

For adults, a live action is well appreciated often than not. However, children enjoy animation more which is typical because of the bright colors and eye-catching graphics.

As a movie watcher, it is important for a movie to be vivid and flashy. The story is yet to be known that's why a crisp and an inviting trailer will make the audience interested.

Presenting the movie as live action or animation splits the movie watchers. When I was young, I often get uninterested watching movies if they show actual people with no special effects. I get bored right away. I am more interested with cartoons or animated flicks or series like Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse and Scooby Doo.

Right now, my preference changed. Partly because of age but I think it is more of the maturity, continuous exposure to adult complexities and increasing knowledge. I now appreciate movies with adventure and science fiction themes. I was even surprised with myself watching action movies and dream of becoming a martial expert. I adore Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan and Dwayne Johnson to name a few.

But to be honest, animation still have a soft spot in me that I still watch them every now and then. I am glad that animated films evolved from plain 2D to complex 3D. It made cartoons more enjoyable to watch.

Reviewing a Movie

You don't have to get a license to be a movie critic. Anyone can give good or bad reviews for any given movie. We have different opinions, personality, ethnicity, and religion that may affect how we view a film.

We can be subjective or objective but we must at least watch the movie first before making any comments. Sometimes, watching it twice or thrice changes how we perceive the movie.

A reviewer may disagree with a fellow reviewer especially if their focus is different. The first might review a film on the technical side more and the other scrutinized the plot or the actors. Whatever the case, such reviews help the future viewer decide if he/she will watch the film.

Movie Genres

Movies are subdivided into different genres. One category can be subdivided into multiple subcategories.

From the lists given by different movie outfits and Wikipedia, I will enumerate some:

1. Action/Adventure - these two genres often come side by side. When I go to shops that offer movies for rent (though these shops are almost extinct) or visits streaming/download sites on the net; this categorization is very popular. Personally, I prefer watching movies of this genre because it keeps my interest until the last part of the show. The adrenaline rush factor is the core attraction.

2. Comedy - humorous in nature. It uses actual experiences of people that embarrassed them and became a laughing stock. Some satire can be injected to the plot to make it more entertaining to watch.

3. Crime/Mystery - another interchanged genres that keep their audience on the edge of their seats. Solving a puzzling occurrence is very engaging and mind-blowing.

4. Drama - heavy for the heart. Sadness is such a burden and yet, many people watch these movies. If you want some realization and contemplation, watching drama is recommended.

5. Fantasy - magical and supernatural. The rich mind of the writer makes the impossible, possible. The stress and chaos of reality makes us turn to fantasy movies whenever we have the chance.

6. Historical - a narrative story of a real person or event. This genre is not very popular as observed though it pays to know in-depth recounts of people and incident.

7. Horror - Ghost stories, monsters and devils are the gist of the film. Vampires and other scary characters add twist to the story lines. It revolves around the "Fear" a human experiences as manifested by the petrifying creatures that show up in a blink of an eye and accompanied by disturbing sound effects.

8. Romance - stories about lovers, regardless of gender preference. Shows and narrates events (struggles and triumphs) of the characters. The relationship can be a success or a failure.

9. Science fiction - sometimes linked to fantasy but it explains how worlds function. It may be about the earth, other parts of our galaxy or the whole universe that humans still want to explore.

10. Suspense/Thriller - a combination of excitement and fear. Action, adventure, mystery, horror and sometimes drama rolled into one. Common plots are disasters, psycho killers/crime and technology misuse.

Watch and Learn

It is easier to get the message across by providing a video and let an audience view what you want to tell them.

This is how film, television, and YouTube achieve their goal as forms of media. I personally enjoy watching tutorials about anything under the sun instead of just reading it.

Whatever the reason behind any video made, posted and circulated; we get to learn, engage ourselves and become entertained.
